Two old Convent pupils finally tied the knot at St. Nicholas Church, Chawton on Saturday 1 September 2001 and then celebrated their marriage at a reception in the grounds of the school. (Up by the tennis courts).
Emma Littlejohns and Bruce Rendall have been close friends since they met at the Convent in 1979 whilst both in Transition. They were class mates throughout the Junior School. Bruce originally asked Emma to marry him when they were 8 years old – but she did not say ‘yes’ until some 20 years later!!! When Bruce left the Convent to continue his education at Lord Wandsworth, Emma remained at the Convent. However, their friendship continued into University when they both attended Coventry University. They both went out with other people during this time but it seems that their childhood romance was meant to be and the couple later rekindled their relationship.
The school was therefore the perfect setting for their reception and they were blessed with blue skies and bright sunshine. Sister Helen and Sister Cecilia also joined guests for the celebrations. This is the first time the school has hosted a wedding for two ex-pupils and it is also

believed to be the first time two ex-pupils have married – can anyone dispute this? If so let us know and we can up-date the records. Continuing with the family tradition Bruce, like his father and grandfather before him is now a pilot (along with various other members of his family – his sister Kate is also a pilot and ex-Convent girl - Editor – where’s the article Kate?). Bruce is now flying with British Airways and Emma is a lawyer practising in Warwickshire where the couple have made their home. We wish them both many very happy years together.
